TILDEN WOMEN’S CLUB RULES & REMINDERS

Each winter and spring, the Tournament Chair may elect to specify weather related problem areas on the course and how they shall be played.

Nearest Point of Relief - is the spot for taking relief without penalty - from interference by an immovable obstruction (Rule 24-2), an abnormal ground condition (Rule 25-1) or a wrong putting green (Rule 25-3).  It is the point nearest to where the ball lies:  (i) that is not nearer the hole, and (ii) away from the condition or obstruction.  In order to determine the nearest point of relief accurately, the player should use the club they will use for their next shot.  The ball is dropped within one club length of this relief spot.  In this case, any club can be used to measure one club length.

Ground Under Repair -- Areas enclosed with white paint lines are ground under repair. Determine nearest point of relief and drop ball within one club length of that point, no nearer hole. No penalty.

French Drains - Drainage areas filled with loose gravel; find the nearest point of relief for swing and stance.  No penalty.

Lost or Out of Bounds (Rule 27) - All fences bordering the golf course and all areas defined by   white   stakes are out of bounds.   Play another ball from the place where the previous shot was made.

Water Hazards (Rule 26) - Are defined by   yellow    stakes and/or lines.    3 options:

    1) play the ball as it lies (no penalty),

    2) play again from where you hit the ball into the hazard, (one stroke penalty),

    3) drop any distance behind the water hazard keeping a straight line between the hole, the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard and the spot on which the ball is dropped (one stroke penalty)

Lateral hazards (Rule 26) - Are defined by   red    stakes and/or lines.       5 options:

in addition to the options for a ball in a water hazard (see above), under penalty

of one stroke, you may drop within two club-lengths of, and not nearer the hole than,

    4) the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard, or

    5) a point on the opposite side of the hazard equidistant from the hole.

Movable Obstructions (Rule 24-1) – 150 yard markers, cart path signs, rakes.  These may be moved if they interfere with your swing or stance.  If your ball hits these obstructions, you must play it as it lies.  That’s the Rub of the Green! (Rule 19-1)

Immovable Obstructions (Rule 24-2) - Cart paths, roads, sprinkler heads, water control boxes, small trees protected by wire cages or stakes.   You are entitled to relief for your swing and stance, but not for your intended line of play.  Determine the nearest point of relief and drop ball within one club length of that point, no nearer hole. No penalty.

Questions about Rules or Procedures (Rule 3-3) - A second ball may be played.  Player must announce the decision to play a second ball and also which ball she wants to count.  Then she must keep the score for both balls until they are holed out.  At the end of the round, the committee will sort it out and decide if the ball chosen to count, counts!

    Hole #2

    • If your tee shot goes into the trees on the left side of the fairway – and you lose sight of it, play a provisional ball to save time.
    • Ball striking power lines between the 100 and the 150 yard markers MUST be replayed without penalty.

    Hole #3

    • Right side of fairway plays as a lateral hazard, whether it is marked with red stakes or not marked.
    • Ball striking power lines just past the 150 yard marker MUST be replayed without penalty.
    • If ball is in the water hazard behind the green, drop ball within one club length of the drop zone, designated by the teal-colored post, no nearer hole.  ONE STROKE PENALTY.

    Hole #4

    • If the ball comes to rest on the rocks below the green on the left side, find the nearest point of relief and take a drop without penalty.
    • If ball is against boundary fence on the left and you cannot play it, then take relief of swing.  ONE STROKE PENALTY.

    Hole #5

    • Bridge to the right of the green is an immovable obstruction IN THE hazard; you are allowed to ground your club and play off the bridge without penalty (see the note on Rule 13-4) or you can proceed following Rule 26 and incur a ONE STROKE PENALTY.

    Hole  #8

    • The ditch along the right side from the tee box to the tall eucalyptus tees behind the driving range is part of a lateral hazard    red     - see 5 options above.

    HOLE #10.

    • If your tee shot goes into the trees on either the left or the right side of the fairway and you lose sight of it, play a provisional ball to save time.

    Hole #12

    • If your tee shot appears to be in the hazard, play a provisional ball to save time.
    • Both bridges are in the hazard, so procedure is the same as for Hole #5.

    Hole #14

    • Ditch on right side of the fairway, is part of a lateral hazard    red     - see 5 options above.

    Hole #15

    • Ditch on right side of the fairway,  is part of a lateral hazard    red    - see 5 options above.

    Hole #16

    • If tee shot appears to go over the green and possibly out of bounds, play a provisional ball to save time.
